Curtis Peoples

Curtis L. Peoples, Ph.D., CA, has worked in music for over 4 decades. He is an Audiovisual Media Specialist at the University of Colorado, Boulder, and the current Executive Director for the Ross Ragland Theater and Cultural Center in Klamath Falls, Oregon. He is an active musician, a graduate, and a former instructor of the Sound Technology program at South Plains College. Curtis has worked in several recording studios and has been a production manager for many events. He plays live, writes, and records music in Longmont, Colorado, and the Denver metro area. From 2017 to 2024, Curtis Peoples hosted the NPR Music Crossroads of Texas Radio program on KTTZ 89.1 and KNCH 90.1. He taught the history of West Texas Music & History of Texas Music for the Honors College at Texas Tech, studio recording courses at South Plains College, and an introduction to Audio Recording at Klamath Community College. He teaches American Media Studies, US History, the History of the Vietnam War, and the History of Pacific Northwest Rock and Roll in the Humanities and Social Sciences Department at Oregon Tech. His research centers on music and place. Curtis Peoples is available for professional music archive and appraisal services. With over 25 years of experience archiving music collections, he can help consult on the best practices and methods for preserving your music collection. He can also appraise your music collection for donation and market sale purposes, and find a suitable archive or museum to house it permanently. In 2001, Curtis helped launch the Southwest Music Archive in the Southwest Collection/Special Collections Library at Texas Tech University. He served for 20 years as the collection's archivist and 10 years as head of the Crossroads Recording Studio in the Texas Tech Library before retiring in May 2023.
